Miami Book Fair
Eight days every November, the Miami Book Fair centers on Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. Author talks and readings fill the week. The Street Fair on the closing Friday through Sunday is where most people spend their time: more than 150 book exhibitors under tents. It began in 1984 as a two-day event called Books by the Bay and now runs under Miami Dade College, which says it brings more than 500 authors and up to 200,000 visitors. The Street Fair is free on Friday. Saturday and Sunday need a ticket, priced by age with cheaper multi-day passes. Children 12 and under always get in free. Almost all author events are free, though some sessions in the Evenings With series are priced separately. Bags are hand-checked at the gates. Metromover stops at College Bayside and College North, and the college's garage on NE Second Avenue has free parking during the fair, about a block from the nearest entrance.
