Miami Rum Renaissance Festival
1001 East Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables, FL 33134
About this happenin
Several hundred rums are poured at the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival in Coral Gables, where Friday seminars lead into a Saturday Grand Tasting at the Coral Gables Woman's Club. The seminars, at the Courtyard by Marriott, put people who build rum brands in front of a room to talk history and production, with rum to taste and food at the breaks. On Saturday several dozen rum companies pour unlimited samples, and a tasting glass comes with the ticket. VIP tickets get in at 12:30 and general admission at 2. The tasting runs until 5, and tickets bought online ahead cost less than the door. A separate Private Collection bar pours rare and limited bottlings from collectors' private libraries, on tasting tickets that benefit a local non-profit. Parking around the building is free but limited, and the Freebee electric ride service is free too. The tasting fills the two halls of a coral rock clubhouse, the city's first Depression-era WPA project, on the National Register of Historic Places since 1990.
