About this happenin
The nonprofit Miami-Broward One Carnival Host Committee has run Miami's Caribbean-American carnival since 1984, now in Lauderhill over Columbus Day weekend in October. The main days are at Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill. The parade used to sit at the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition Grounds, and the name stayed when the venue moved north. Saturday is J'ouvert. It starts early in the morning, and revelers dance in paint and powder. Sunday is the Parade of Bands, with masquerade bands in full costume and a music truck rolling alongside each one, then a concert with Caribbean performers. A food village and craft vendors run through the day. Earlier in the run come Junior Carnival, where children's bands compete, and Pan Jamboree, a steelpan showcase. Most events are ticketed and sold through CaribTix, the organiser's ticketing partner. Dates and venues change between editions, as do prices. To walk in the parade you buy a place in a band.
More in October: 3 other Miami events.
