About this happenin
The Homestead Championship Rodeo is the only rodeo in Miami-Dade County sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and volunteers of the Homestead Rodeo Association run it. It is held over a weekend at the end of January or the start of February at the Doc DeMilly Rodeo Arena in Harris Field Park. Every performance carries bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down and team roping, and barrel racing. Tickets are good for one day only, with no refunds and no day changes. Children 4 to 12 have their own price, and younger ones are free. Rain or shine, gates open two hours before each show. Leave backpacks, umbrellas, coolers and pets at home. The association also runs a Miss Rodeo Homestead pageant and a literacy program called Books and Broncs. The first rodeo was held in 1949. Hurricane Andrew wrecked the grounds in 1992. The volunteers rebuilt them, and the rodeo was back by 1994.
