Deering Seafood Festival

Get to the Chef Demo Tent early. Chefs from South Florida restaurants cook 45-minute seafood demonstrations there, many of the dishes straight off their own menus, with FIU culinary students working as sous chefs. Each demo holds 140 people, first come first served, and the audience gets a taste and the recipe. Outside the tent, local restaurants and seafood suppliers sell food across the Deering Estate's lawn on Biscayne Bay, and Artists Lane sells paintings and jewelry made by local artisans. Kids get their own zone with a water battle and a cooking class. Pontoon rides out to Chicken Key cost extra. Free shuttles run every 15 minutes from Westminster Christian School and Palmetto Bay Village Center, and the estate's historic houses are closed for the day.
