About this happenin
The Coconut Grove Arts Festival began in 1963 as a clothesline art show, a publicity stunt for a play at the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Around 285 juried artists now set up booths along Biscayne Bay every Presidents Day weekend, and jurors score applications without seeing the artists' names. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 10 to 5 on Monday. Tickets are sold online and at the gate, starting around $30 online. The area has garages and private lots besides street meters, and the festival suggests rideshare. Pets, chairs, outside food and drink, and bags larger than 12 by 12 inches stay home. Service animals in a vest are the exception. A craft beer garden puts artists to work live. Recent editions have added live music and mural painting in Peacock Park, and a Young Collectors Club where kids ages 6 to 12 buy original art for $5.
