Carnaval Miami ends each March when the Calle Ocho Music Festival fills 15 blocks of SW 8th Street in Little Havana, from SW 12th to SW 27th Avenue. The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana founded it and still runs it. You walk the route from stage to stage. Between them sit international food vendors and sampling sites, and folkloric dance groups perform along the way. The day runs from late morning into the early evening, and getting in costs nothing. Kiwanis sells a VIP Passport separately. It covers a lounge and priority seating at one of the stages, plus food and drink samples from Little Havana restaurants, with the alcohol limited to guests 21 and over. Carnaval Miami's proceeds go to the Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation, which pays for children's sports leagues, summer camps, school supplies and college scholarships.
