Taste the Caribbean
10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables, FL 33156
About this happenin
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, on Old Cutler Road in Coral Gables, puts on Taste the Caribbean, a one-day festival. Fairchild has held it in mid-September each year since at least 2024, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Garden admission covers entry, though ticket prices change every year. Members and small children get in free. The food comes first. An island market sets up on the lawns. Caribbean vendors sell jerk and seafood dishes, and shops stock island clothing alongside spices and hemp products. Cocktail flights and fresh coconut water are sold separately. So is the tropical tasting tavern, a timed session that pairs Caribbean-inspired cocktails with dishes. Bands rotate through the afternoon, playing junkanoo and mento as well as calypso. The garden adds cooking demos, dance lessons, a spice seminar and a dominoes tournament. Kids get limbo and fruit sack races, plus giant lawn games.
More in September: 3 other Miami events.
