International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami
7930 SW 40th St, Miami, FL 33155
About this happenin
Teatro Avante, the company Mario Ernesto Sánchez started in 1978, produces the International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami. The first festival ran in 1986 with local productions. By 1989 it was inviting companies from abroad, and Spanish-language theatre from Spain and Latin America, plus the United States, has filled its stages since. An edition runs about four weeks, with shows Thursday or Friday through Sunday at four venues: the Westchester Cultural Arts Center, the Koubek Center, the Adrienne Arsht Center and the Key Biscayne Community Center. Recent editions have run in July and in September. Evening performances have started at 8:30 pm, with 5 pm shows on Sundays. Plays are in Spanish and some carry English supertitles. A few nights end with a post-show conversation. Tickets have been $30, or $25 for seniors over 65, before a handling fee at the Arsht Center. Students and guests with disabilities pay $25 too. A Children's Day afternoon at the Koubek Center adds workshops and a show with free admission and parking.
More in September: 3 other Miami events.
