Royal Poinciana Festival
10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables, FL 33156
About this happenin
Miami-Dade's official flowering tree is the royal poinciana. The Royal Poinciana Festival (billed as the Royal Poinciana Fiesta on some of its own pages) builds a week of events around its June bloom, timed to the first or second weekend of the month. The Tropical Flowering Tree Society runs it and calls it "Miami-Dade County's Longest-Running Festival." It grew out of a Royal Poinciana Tree Day that Miami's mayor proclaimed in 1937. The 2026 schedule had a walking tour of Simpson Park and the poinciana-lined South Miami Avenue, a bike tour, a trolley tour and a morning planting trees with TREEmendous Miami. The trolley tour takes a different route every year, and its tickets always sell out. A party at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, free with a dish to share, presents the scholarship winners as the festival's Queen and Court. The first Queen was crowned in 1940, and the scholarships now go to young women in botany and related STEM fields. The trees don't keep the festival's calendar: a cold winter can delay the bloom by a couple of weeks.
More in June: 4 other Miami events.
