Fairchild Mango Festival
10901 Old Cutler Rd, Miami, FL 33156
About this happenin
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, on Old Cutler Road, has a living collection of more than 400 mango varieties, and more than 20,000 trees have gone home with visitors to its Mango Festival. The garden has held the two-day festival every summer since 1992. It is the public side of Fairchild's tropical fruit research, and the lecturers are growers and scientists. Recent editions have fallen in June or July. Hours run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine, and tickets aren't refundable. Admission covers the whole garden and the mango display in the Garden House, plus the free Mango Masters talks on growing mangos. Fairchild members and children under three get in free. The trees, chosen for South Florida backyards, are sold on site, and food vendors take payment at their own stalls. There is live music all weekend and a kids' mango art station. The mango brunch, which chef Allen Susser puts together with Miami chefs, and the tasting passes cost extra, and the brunch sells out.
