The City of Coral Gables and the Consulate General of Mexico in Miami hold Día de los Muertos at Ponce Circle Park, 2810 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, from 5 to 10 p.m., on or next to Halloween. The city's listing promises traditional Mexican performances, music, dance and authentic food. Earlier programs have added a procession for the returning souls, a community altar, a Catrinas Relay with a costume contest, and face-painting and piñata workshops for kids. Ballet folklórico troupes and mariachi groups have played the stage. For the consulate, the night is cultural diplomacy, a way of upholding the ancestral wealth of Indigenous and pre-Hispanic traditions. The celebration has been held on November 1 and on October 31. Experience Coral Gables lists admission as free. The Coral Gables Trolley runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Freebee rides are available.
