About this happenin

African and diaspora dance and drum workshops run for three days at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens during DanceAfrica Miami, produced by the nonprofit Delou Africa Inc. It began in 2010 as the African Diaspora Dance & Drum Festival of Florida and took the DanceAfrica name in 2016, when Miami became one of five cities in the national DanceAfrica network. Classes are the draw. The festival features native artists from Guinea, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Congo, Haiti and Cuba. The weekend falls around the first of August, Friday through Sunday, and tickets start at about $12. Vendors set up a marketplace. The Children's Village is free, with folktales, crafts, dance and drum for kids.
