Watching is free at Orlando's dragon boat festival, where more than 70 crews of twenty paddlers race 500-meter heats across Turkey Lake. Boats run in bright blocks of team color, with a drummer up front setting the stroke and a steersperson handling the sweep at the stern. Breast cancer survivor crews have paddled here for years, and the day makes room for them. The Asia Trend expo on the lawn has taiko drumming, tai chi, folk dance and martial arts demonstrations, along with a marketplace, craft vendors, a Health and Wellness Village and a row of food trucks. Races start at 9 am and go through the day, and the free festival winds down around 4 pm. Spectators watch from the shoreline at Bill Frederick Park, so a folding chair and your own sun cover help. Parking on race day is free.
