Downtown Orlando's December half marathon began in 1977 as the Tangerine Bowl Half Marathon, and Track Shack, the running store on Mills Avenue, now runs it as the OUC Orlando Half Marathon. The 13.1 miles start and finish on Central Boulevard at Lake Eola Park on a Saturday morning, with live music along the course. Afterward a party with cold beer sets up by the lake. The Lake Eola 5K goes off on Sunday morning and raises money for WESH 2's Share Your Christmas food drive. Runners who want both races enter them together as the DTO 16.2 Challenge, which has a medal of its own. Half marathon entry climbs in steps from $95 for the first 500 runners to $170 in the last two weeks. Side-street parking is limited, so head for the garages at Rosalind and Robinson. Bibs are handed out on the Thursday and Friday before at The Plaza Live, where the expo is free and open to anyone.
