The Gumbo Festival sets up at the Westwego Farmers & Fisheries Market on the second full weekend of October. More than 2,000 gallons of seafood and chicken-and-sausage gumbo are cooked on site, with jambalaya and red beans and rice alongside, and Sunday has a gumbo cook-off. Cajun and zydeco bands play, and carnival rides and craft booths fill out the grounds, with raffles too. Friday opens in the evening and the other two days start around midday. Bring folding chairs for the music, but leave outside food and drinks at home, along with any pets other than service dogs. The festival was held in Bridge City before it moved to Westwego in 2025.
