Oktoberfest at Deutsches Haus
1700 Moss Street, New Orleans, LA 70119
About this happenin
For three weekends every October, Deutsches Haus, the German cultural society on Bayou St. John, turns its grounds at 1700 Moss Street in New Orleans into a beer hall. It is the biggest festival the Haus runs, and the Haus kept it going through the aftermath of Katrina and a spell in Kenner before the current building opened. The run starts on the second Friday of the month. Fridays open at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 1 p.m. Nobody may bring in their own food or drinks. Bratwurst, sauerkraut, large Bavarian pretzels and German desserts make up the food, and there are over 20 German beers and as many schnapps. Bands play oompah and some less traditional German music. Several times a day the chicken dance runs alongside the Masskrugstemmen, a beer stein holding contest.
More in October: 14 other New Orleans events.
