Every October, Pontchartrain Park at 5701 Press Drive in New Orleans hosts Gentilly Fest, a free neighborhood festival. Music plays continuously on the main stage and in the gospel tent. The Kids' Village has pony rides and face painting. Local restaurants and caterers sell the food, and an arts and crafts area sells original work. Friday is an evening session, and Saturday and Sunday start at noon. Parking on Press Drive is a paid lot with no in and out, and a VIP tent is sold separately through Eventbrite. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, and so are umbrellas. The only animals allowed are service animals. Police and fire crews are always on the grounds. Gentilly Festival, Inc., a nonprofit run by community volunteers, started it in 2008 to raise money for the area's first responders, who lacked the funds to equip their stations. The proceeds still go to local nonprofits and children's programs.
