San Fermin in Nueva Orleans
545 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70130
About this happenin
Roller derby skaters play the bulls at San Fermin in Nueva Orleans, a New Orleans take on the Pamplona run that starts and finishes at Gallier Hall on St. Charles Avenue early on a Saturday morning in July. A fiesta follows inside the hall. The idea came up on Mardi Gras day in 2007, and the first run followed that year. NOLA Bulls LLC now runs a full weekend: a Friday kickoff party that doubles as a fundraiser, the run on Saturday, and a burlesque brunch on Sunday. The money goes to Beth's Friends Forever, a nonprofit that helps women in the New Orleans area who are fighting cancer. Runner registration and tickets to the Gallier Hall events go through the organizer's ticketing portal. The route is posted as proposed, pending police approval. The rules are short: run at your own risk, do not touch the bulls, stay down if you fall, and children under ten use the sidewalk.
More in July: 3 other New Orleans events.
