Red Dress Run
French Quarter, New Orleans, LA 70116
About this happenin
On the second Saturday of August, thousands of people in red dresses, men and women alike, take over the French Quarter and Marigny with drinks in hand for the Red Dress Run. The New Orleans Hash House Harriers, a local club that calls itself a drinking club with a running problem, put it on. The start is usually in the French Quarter or the Marigny, and only registered runners are told the exact spot. The route stays secret too, in keeping with hashing tradition. Beer stops and live music fill the rest of the day. You must be 21 or older and show photo ID to collect a wristband, and you have to pick up your own packet. Registration is not refundable, though you can transfer it to someone else. Folding chairs are fine, glass and pets are not. The fees pay for grants to local nonprofits, more than 2 million dollars since 1994.
