It's 3.5 miles each way to Panther Creek Falls near Turnerville, and the Forest Service opens the trail only to intermediate and advanced hikers. Stretches of the tread have washed away, though the ranger district says you can still get through to the falls with extra care. The parking lot and picnic area where the trail starts are closed for Hurricane Helene repairs. Call the district at 706-754-6221 before you go. Don't jump or dive into the plunge pool, which can hide rocks and logs under swirling currents.
