Blue Spring is Florida's premier manatee sanctuary, a first-magnitude spring that pumps out crystal-clear 72-degree water year-round into a short run off the St. Johns River near Orange City. From mid-November through March, hundreds of manatees crowd in to escape the cold, and a riverside boardwalk lets you watch them drift below. In warmer months the same spring becomes a favorite for swimming, snorkeling, and tubing.
Bok Tower Gardens crowns Iron Mountain, one of the highest points on the Florida peninsula, with a 205-foot art deco and neo-Gothic Singing Tower rising above 50 acres of woodland gardens in Lake Wales. The tower's 60-bell carillon plays daily concerts, its sound carrying over a reflecting pool that mirrors the whole spire. Visit in late winter for peak camellia and azalea bloom.
Circle B Bar Reserve is a restored 1,300-acre floodplain on Lake Hancock just southeast of Lakeland, and one of Florida's best spots to see wild things up close. Walk Alligator Alley or Heron Hideout and you will pass basking gators, wading egrets and ospreys among the more than 200 bird species recorded here. Cooler dry-season mornings from November through March bring the heaviest bird traffic.
Four miles west of Sebring sits one of Florida's first state parks, where a boardwalk threads a bald cypress swamp past trees that were already ancient when the Spanish arrived. Walk the catwalk over black water where alligators drift and barred owls call, then drive the three-mile loop past oaks so broad it takes a few people holding hands to ring one. The Civilian Conservation Corps crews who cut these trails in the 1930s left behind a museum and a hushed, cathedral feel that still holds.

Skip the scuba dreams (cave diving is off-limits) and come for the simplest version of a Florida spring: cold, clear, and yours from 8 a.m. to closing.
De Leon Springs pushes out close to twenty million gallons a day, holding 72 degrees whether it's January or August, in a wide circular pool ringed by cypress and moss-draped oaks. The real reason people come is breakfast at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill, where you cook your own pancakes on a griddle built into the table, then walk down and swim off the meal in the spring. Come in winter and you may share the cove with manatees drifting in from the cold St. Johns to warm up.
Rock Springs pushes about 26,000 gallons a minute of 68-degree water out of a cave at the head of Kelly Park, and the run it feeds is the whole point: you drop in at the boil and let the current walk you a quarter-mile downstream past limestone ledges and overhanging palms. The water glows that gemstone teal-green where the light hits the sand, and the float lasts roughly 25 minutes before a short paved walk back to do it again. Bring your own tube or float under five feet, get there early because the lot caps and fills by mid-morning, and plan to be wet all day.
Disney built a whole park around the idea that real animals could share a stage with imagined ones, and the 145-foot Tree of Life at its center carries hundreds of creatures carved into its trunk. Kilimanjaro Safaris rolls open-sided trucks across 110 acres where giraffes, lions, and elephants roam as they would on a savanna, while Pandora glows blue after dark with floating mountains lifted from the Avatar films. Come for the safari near opening when the animals are most active, and stay past sunset to watch the island light up.
EPCOT is the Disney park built around a giant geodesic sphere, Spaceship Earth, that you can see rising over the trees long before you reach the gate. Past the front neighborhoods of pavilions devoted to technology and the natural world, the park opens onto World Showcase, a lagoon ringed by eleven country pavilions where you can eat your way from Mexico to Canada in an afternoon. It is built for people who want to ride inside the movies, not just look at them, with screens, coasters, and sets stacked one street over from the next.
This is the park the castle belongs to, the one Walt Disney World built first, where Main Street, U.S.A. opens onto a long view of Cinderella Castle and its pink-and-blue spires. Six themed lands fan out from that central hub, from the riverboats and frontier rides of Liberty Square to the rockets and people-mover of Tomorrowland, with the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and a slow round on the Carousel of Progress among the rides that have run here for decades. Come at dusk and the castle turns into a screen for projections and fireworks over the rooftops of Main Street.

It is the corner of Walt Disney World where the backlot fantasy of show business gets the run of an entire afternoon.
Universal's fourth Orlando park sends you through the towering Chronos portal into Celestial Park, a garden hub of dancing fountains that fans out to five themed worlds. Wander from the cobblestones of Super Nintendo World into the gothic gloom of Dark Universe, the dragon-keeps of How to Train Your Dragon's Isle of Berk, and the Parisian streets of the Wizarding World's Ministry of Magic. It is the most ambitious thing Universal has built here, and the kind of place where a single day never feels like enough.
SeaWorld Orlando wraps marine life and roller coasters into one 200-acre park, where you can watch beluga whales glide through the chilled water of Wild Arctic, stand inches from rays and sea turtles, then climb aboard the 200-foot hypercoaster Mako. The floorless Kraken and the flying Manta carve over the lagoons, while penguins waddle through the near-freezing Antarctica habitat. Conservation runs underneath it all, from rescued manatees to the rehabilitation work that brings injured animals back to the sea.
Unlike the rest of Orlando, this park caps how many people come through the gate each day, so the white-sand beaches and warm lagoons never feel like a theme park. You wade into chest-deep water to meet a bottlenose dolphin face to face, drift the heated tropical river past a free-flight aviary where toucans and parrots land on your arm, and snorkel the Grand Reef among rays and reef fish. Reservations are the whole idea here, and so is the room to breathe.
Walk in through the giant aqua-and-white gator jaw on South Orange Blossom Trail and you have entered the roadside Florida that Owen Godwin started fattening up here in 1949. A boardwalk threads the breeding marsh past hundreds of bellowing alligators and a few rare white leucistic ones with pale blue eyes, while the train, the wading-bird rookery, and the daredevils on the zip line keep the place humming. It is part wildlife preserve, part old-school attraction, and the trainers who hand-feed the big bulls clearly love showing it off.
Florida's first theme park grew up here as Cypress Gardens, and Lego bricks moved into the old grounds without paving over them. Kids steer their own boats, earn Lego driving licenses, and walk through Miniland USA, where the New York skyline and the Las Vegas Strip stand a few feet tall in plastic studs. Between the rides, the original botanical gardens still wind along the lakeshore, shaded by a banyan tree that has been spreading since 1939.
