Spooky Empire began in a Broward County hotel and has spent most of its long run in Orlando, where the Halloween weekend edition is the one horror fans plan their autumn around. Three days at the Hyatt Regency Orlando on International Drive bring autograph tables, panels with genre actors, a horror film festival, a tattoo festival with working artists, live music and a vendor floor deep in latex masks, prop replicas and small-press paperbacks. The costume contest is the centerpiece, judged for cash prizes, and the build quality goes far past a store-bought mask. A zombie walk moves through the property and late-night parties carry the weekend past closing time on the dealer floor. Know before you go: doors open at 1pm Friday and at 11am Saturday and Sunday, with VIP passholders admitted an hour earlier. Children ten and under enter free with an adult. Costumes are welcome, but any weapon must be peace-bonded or obviously fake, and nobody under 21 gets into the VIP parties.
