As hurricane season gets going each June, Orange County Government and its Office of Emergency Management hold the Hurricane Expo on a Saturday. It's a free preparedness fair, open to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Emergency responders and safety vendors talk one on one about your own house and your own plan, and a meteorologist gives the outlook for the season ahead. The county also hands out free preparedness items while supplies last, and it tells people to arrive early for them. The venue moves around. Evans High School's gym on Silver Star Road in Orlando and West Orange High School have both hosted. Questions before the day go to the Office of Emergency Management at ocoem@ocfl.net or 311 (407-836-3111).
