The Master Gardener Volunteers of UF/IFAS Extension Orange County spend the year raising cuttings and seedlings, then sell them on the first Saturday in March at the Extension office on South Conway Road. Roughly fifty vendors join them on the grounds: orchid growers, bromeliad specialists, native nurseries, fruit tree sellers, beekeepers, crafters, and food trucks near the entrance. Along the walkways of the Exploration Gardens, volunteers demonstrate orchid care, seed starting, container gardening and microirrigation, and the auditorium talks cover Florida native landscaping and building backyard habitat. Orange County 4-H staffs the youth pavilion, where kids paint rocks and plant a tomato seed. Bring a box or wagon for your plants, and a bag of your soil: the Mobile Plant Clinic tests pH for $2 a sample. Admission is free, and the festival runs 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with keynote sessions on the hour from 11 to 1.
