Buddha's Birthday Celebration at Guang Ming Temple
6555 Hoffner Ave, Orlando, FL 32822
About this happenin
Guang Ming Temple opens its Orlando grounds each May for Buddha's Birthday, a free day of blessing ceremonies, taiko drumming and a vegetarian food fair. The morning starts in the main shrine, where monastics lead chanting and an offering ceremony before a packed hall. Outside, visitors line up to bathe the Buddha, ladling fragrant water over a small standing statue as a gesture of clearing the mind. The front courtyard carries cultural performances through midday, the side courtyard becomes the food fair, and an upstairs room runs mindful arts and crafts. Guang Ming has served Orlando as a Fo Guang Shan temple for more than three decades, and this is the day it opens widest. Know before you go: admission is free and the event is open to the public. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and the festival runs into mid afternoon, so late morning catches both halves. The craft tables and the water ritual are built with children in mind. The temple sits on Hoffner Avenue in southeast Orlando.
