Apopka's nurseries built the town's foliage trade, and for one spring weekend their specialty plants share Kit Land Nelson Park with juried artists and crafters. The artist tents carry paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry, woodworking and candles. Plant Doctors take garden questions, school art goes on display, music plays at the gazebo, and Home Depot presents a kids zone. The adults get a wine and beer garden. The Apopka Art and Foliage Festival is more than sixty years old, a joint effort of the GFWC Apopka Woman's Club and the City of Apopka, and it costs nothing to get in. Parking at Edwards Field runs a few dollars, and the money goes to a local Boy Scout troop. Hours are 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm Sunday. Carry some cash and something sturdy to haul plants home in. If your arms fill up early anyway, the plant sitter booth minds purchases for a small fee while you keep shopping.
