Park Avenue closes to traffic and Central Park fills with white tents for three days each March, as it has for more than six decades. Three independent judges pick a little over 200 exhibitors from more than a thousand applications worldwide, so the panels hold juried painting, glass, metal sculpture and photography rather than a craft market. Best of Show is a $12,000 purchase award, part of $76,500 in cash prizes. A music stage runs at the north end of the park, and the Children's Workshop lets kids make something and carry it home. Know before you go: hours are 9am to 6pm Friday and Saturday, 9am to 5pm Sunday, and admission is free. There are no designated festival lots and no shuttle. The Rollins College garage at the south end of Park Avenue charges a fee, and charitable groups run paid lots on Interlachen and New York avenues. A free bike corral sits on Morse Boulevard across from the train station lot. No pets in Central Park during festival hours.
