Krewe of BOO! Halloween Parade
Elysian Fields Avenue at North Peters Street, New Orleans, LA 70116
About this happenin
Krewe of BOO!, New Orleans' official Halloween parade, is a free Mardi Gras-style procession that rolls from Elysian Fields Avenue through the French Quarter to the Warehouse District on the weekend before Halloween weekend. It sets off at 6:30 p.m., around sunset. The monsters on its floats, werewolves and vampires among them, are built from fiberglass and papier-mâché at Kern Studios. Blaine Kern Sr., the float builder known as Mr. Mardi Gras, started the parade in 2007, and his son Brian runs it today. Riders and marching bands toss beads and Halloween throws to the crowd along the three-mile route. The parade runs about two hours. It is kid-friendly, and costumes are encouraged. A shoulder bag helps with the catching. Afterward the Monster Mash costume party takes over a Warehouse District hall. That part is ticketed.
