Gay Easter Parade
834 N Rampart St, New Orleans, LA 70116
About this happenin
The Gay Easter Parade loops through the French Quarter on Easter Sunday afternoon, with carriages and walking groups in their Easter best. It began in 2000 as a showcase for the fashion and creativity of the LGBT community. Ladies wear gowns or summer suits with Easter hats, and gentlemen wear summer suits or tuxedos. The parade steps off at 4:30 p.m., runs down Bourbon Street to Esplanade, then comes back up Royal and finishes at GrandPre's on North Rampart. Past parades have thrown bunnies and candy along with beads. Watching is free. Families are welcome, LGBT or not. Two grand marshals lead it each year and are honored at a Purple Party reception. Crowds were estimated at 40,000 in 2015 and 2016. From the fourth parade through 2019, the money raised went to Food For Friends, a program of the NO/AIDS Task Force.
