On Old Cutler Road in Miami, Fairchild's 83 acres have 2.1 miles of paved paths and a free narrated tram that starts at 11 a.m. The Montgomery Palmetum alone holds more than 500 palm species on 13 acres. In the butterfly conservatory, the Vollmer Metamorphosis Lab is where you can watch new butterflies emerge. Strollers stay outside. Bring lunch if you like, just not in a rolling cooler, and give the place two and a half hours or more.
