About

Destin's commercial strip rings Henderson Beach State Park, and its beach is still dark enough at night for green and loggerhead sea turtles to nest. The park has 1.25 miles of Gulf shore, backed by dunes up to 30 feet tall. Out in the scrub on the east side, the campground stays close to full ten months of the year. The day-use area sits where old US 98 used to run, just inland of the dunes, and most of the road's asphalt came up in 1999.
