About

Water drops 73 feet into a cylindrical sinkhole about 100 feet deep, some three miles south of Chipley, and disappears into a cavern at the bottom. In the Civil War era the falls powered a gristmill. The oil well drilled here in 1919 went 4,912 feet down and never produced commercial oil, and it was capped in 1921.
