About this happenin

For over forty years St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church has turned its Swann Avenue campus into a two-day festival of Greek food, dancing and faith. Dance troupes ranging from toddlers to adults perform in costume from the mainland and the islands, hot loukoumades come out of the fryer drizzled with honey and nuts, and a bouzouki-led band keeps the Grand Hall and the outdoor party tent moving. Between plates you can tour the original church with the parish choir, browse a market of Greek and Mediterranean provisions, and shop icons, books and jewelry. A portion of proceeds goes to charity. Know before you go: recent editions have opened Friday afternoon and run all day Saturday, closing at 10pm both nights. There is parking on campus plus satellite lots, with a map posted at parking.tampagreekfestival.com, and rideshare drop-off sits in the rear lot off South Moody Avenue. It is wheelchair accessible and built for all ages, with a separate Kids Zone. Only leashed service dogs, outdoors. Takeout can be ordered online for curbside pickup.
