Oktoberfest Tampa turns Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park into a Bavarian beer garden for three October days, with liter steins raised under the downtown skyline. Expect German beer poured in 16oz cups and one-liter Masskrugs, brats and pretzels, Schuhplattler dancers circling under flower arches, a ceremonial keg tapping to open the weekend, and competitions in stein hoisting and mustache growing. Gasparilla krewes turn up in pirate leather, which is a very Tampa way to run a German festival. Know before you go: Friday is an evening session, Saturday runs from late morning until 11pm, and Sunday closes in the early evening. Buy a single day or a weekend pass. Kids 12 and under get in free, as do active and retired military and first responders with ID, and same-day re-entry is allowed. Tables are shared and first come, so arrive before noon if you want a seat. Park in the Poe, Rivergate Tower or Fort Brooke garages, and leave coolers, chairs and umbrellas at home. Dogs are welcome.
