Teams chase real points in brisket, ribs, pork and chicken every November at Plant City Pig Jam, a Kansas City Barbeque Society state championship cook-off. Their smoke drifts over the Randy Larson Softball Four-plex. Amateur and professional divisions compete across the two days. To eat, you swap cash for Pig Bucks, the festival currency, and spend them at the competitors' own trailers. The Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce puts it on, and money from those plates funds scholarships for local high school seniors. Friday is an evening session, and Saturday runs from late morning into the evening. Admission is $5 a person (free for kids 6 and under), and kids get a rock climbing wall and moonwalks. Attendants direct cars into free parking, though handicap spaces are limited. Pets aren't allowed; only service animals are.
