Sunscreen Film Festival
153 2nd Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
About this happenin
For four days at the turn from April into May, the AMC screens inside the Mall at Sundial hand themselves over to independent film, shorts and features alike. Sunscreen started in 2006 with 34 films and a standing-room crowd at the Studio@620, and the slate has since grown past 200 titles, wrapped in panels and seminars aimed at people who actually make things. The St. Petersburg-Clearwater Film Society, a local nonprofit, runs it. What has not changed is the scale: filmmakers stay for the Q and A after their own screening, a red carpet and a press line set up right in the mall concourse, and the evening parties put you in a room with the director of the short you watched that afternoon. Know before you go: screenings are at the Sundial AMC 12, 153 2nd Avenue North in downtown St. Petersburg. Passes and tickets are sold through the festival site, where the full schedule posts closer to the dates.
