The St. Petersburg Power & Sailboat Show puts powerboats and sailboats in the water and on land each January at the Mahaffey Theater Yacht Basin and Albert Whitted Park, on the city's downtown waterfront. New and brokerage boats sit side by side, so a cruising yacht and a kayak are one walk apart. A 40,000 square foot tent holds the gear and electronics that go with them. Doors open at 10am daily, closing at 6pm Thursday through Saturday and 4pm on Sunday. Admission covers the seminars and Captain Don Dingman's Hook the Future kids' fishing clinics, where children receive a rod and reel combo. On-water boat courses with the Annapolis School of Seamanship come with admission but require advance registration. Preferred parking is at the Mahaffey Theater on 1st Street South, with the South Core and Sundial garages nearby. The Al Lang lot is open every show day except Saturday, when the Saturday Morning Market takes it over. The free Downtown Looper trolley stops at the Mahaffey.
