Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival
10 Pier 60 Dr, Clearwater, FL 33767
About this happenin
Each spring a 24,000 square foot tent rises on the sand beside Pier 60 in Clearwater Beach, holding sculptures carved by hand from about 1,000 tons of beach sand. Eighteen master sculptors work a fresh theme every year, using no molds and carving on while visitors walk through, with projection mapping and augmented reality lighting the pieces after dark. Outside, the beach adds street performers, live music, fireworks, a ferris wheel and free sand sculpting classes. Know before you go: admission is ticketed, children 5 and under free, with discounted gate rates for military, first responders, teachers and healthcare workers on Frontline Fridays and for ages 60 and up on Timeless Tuesdays. The exhibit runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Pier 60 lot is closest; the free downtown park and ride and the Jolley Trolley spare you the beach traffic. Bring a blanket or a low chair; leave pets, glass and canopies at home. Sand wheelchairs are free, first come. The tent covers the sculptures, so weather rarely cancels.
