Regulars claim curb space on Douglas Avenue well before the first float of Dunedin's own Fat Tuesday parade, and crowds run into the tens of thousands. The parade, a downtown tradition since the early 1990s, sends more than fifty floats and a lot of flying beads north from Beltrees Street to Skinner Boulevard. A street festival centers on the Pioneer Park stage, where live bands play and local businesses sell food and drink. Recent editions have run from 5 to 10 in the evening, with the parade stepping off at 7. Parking is on the street or in downtown's public lots and garages, and the city publishes a road closure map and a Jolley Trolley route ahead of each year. Coolers and pets aren't permitted. Wear the Mardi Gras colors, and bring some cash and a small bag for the throws. The curb is free, and VIP viewing packages are sold separately.
