American Stage moves a full-scale musical outdoors to Demens Landing Park every spring, and 2027 is Shrek, running five weeks from the end of March. The tradition goes back to 1986, when ten free performances of The Taming of the Shrew, built from donated materials, drew about 8,000 people to the same stretch of St. Pete waterfront. You can book a reserved chair, but the blanket sections on the grass are the point: bring a picnic, get there early, and watch the light go off the bay before the stage lights come up. It's family friendly, though five weeks of Shrek won't fix a long sit for a small kid.
