About this happenin

In 1986, ten free performances of The Taming of the Shrew, built from donated materials, drew about 8,000 people to the St. Pete waterfront. The tradition started there. Every spring American Stage now moves a full-scale musical outdoors to Demens Landing Park, on that same stretch, for a run of several weeks from late March. Reserved chairs can be booked, but take a picnic to the blanket sections on the grass instead, and get there early enough to watch the light go off the bay before the stage lights come up. It's family friendly, though a full musical is still a long sit for a small kid.

More in March: 12 other Tampa Bay events.
