Of the downtown Tampa hotels, the closest to Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park is The Barrymore, about three minutes by car.
Judges hand out up to $92,000 at the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, including $15,000 for Best in Show, so every booth you pass is in the running. All 250 artists are juried, and they set up along the Hillsborough River in Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, where walking in costs nothing. Saturday runs 9 to 6 and Sunday 10 to 5, and Sunday morning is when the artists have time to talk. The show is more than fifty years old. It started as a juried exhibit at the Florida State Fair, parked near the horticulture displays and the livestock barns, before art activists moved it onto downtown sidewalks.
