Santa brings up the rear of Central Florida's oldest continuous holiday parade, the "Ye Olde Hometown" parade the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce has staged each December since the 1950s. Ahead of him, more than 80 entries head south on brick-paved Park Avenue from Cole Avenue, past the storefronts and oak canopy of the shopping district. Floats and fire engines join the marching bands, and the rest of the roster stays reliably local: high school drumlines and flag corps, scouting troops, Winter Park Fire-Rescue and police color guards, and elected officials. The parade steps off on a Saturday morning and runs about ninety minutes, and watching is free. Park Avenue and several side streets close for it, so park a few blocks off the route and walk in. Families stake out the curb and the Central Park lawn well before the start, so bring folding chairs or a blanket. The only ticket involved is for the pancake breakfast Leadership Winter Park serves at the Central Park stage from 7 a.m.
