Children decorate their bikes at the corner of Park Avenue and Morse Boulevard, then ride to the main stage in Central Park about half an hour into Winter Park's free 4th of July Celebration. Opening remarks and the National Anthem come from that stage, and the Bach Festival Choir and Brass Ensemble perform under John Sinclair. In the adjoining West Meadow, a Kids Zone sets up carnival midway games and bounce slides, and Winter Park Electric hands out individual mini pies and water while supplies last. Recent editions have run in the evening, roughly 6 to 9 p.m. The city has staged it since 1996, closing Park Avenue between Morse Boulevard and Canton Avenue and filling Central Park, so park off the avenue and walk in. Bring blankets and lawn chairs, and wear the flag's colors. The Morse Museum and the Winter Park History Museum open free in conjunction with the celebration.
