Unity Heritage Festival
721 W. New England Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789
About this happenin
Gospel on Sunday, blues and jazz on Monday. The Unity Heritage Festival fills the Sunday and the Monday holiday of Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in Shady Park at Hannibal Square, where Pennsylvania and New England avenues meet in Winter Park. The city puts it on, and the money it raises goes to the Educational Fulfillment Fund for local kids from low-income families. Sunday has run 1 to 5 p.m., with children's games and food and retail vendors around the gospel acts. Monday starts earlier, at 11 a.m., with an official program that city officials and community leaders join. After that, bands and kids' activities carry on until 5. Cross the street to the Hannibal Square Heritage Center while you're there. Its exhibit tells the story of Winter Park's historic African-American community, and the city points festival-goers to it.
More in January: 13 other Orlando events.
