Sanford turns its Lake Monroe waterfront into an Independence Day party, with a professional fireworks show fired from the downtown marina and mirrored on the water. The Riverwalk fills with cirque-style street performers, food and drink vendors and tables of homemade goods from local makers, with a radio partner broadcasting live along the stretch of Seminole Boulevard between San Juan and Palmetto avenues. The shells are choreographed to a patriotic soundtrack carried by speakers running the length of the waterfront, so the music lands wherever you plant your chair. Know before you go: the evening runs 7 to 10 PM and the fireworks begin at 9:15 PM. Free guest parking is available in designated lots including the municipal lot at Palmetto Avenue and Seminole Boulevard, plus on-street parking downtown. Bring folding chairs, a blanket and a small personal cooler around 12 by 12 inches; pop-up tents and umbrellas must come down by 8 PM. Pets stay home.
