Walking into the Seminole County Fair costs nothing, so your money goes on the midway: a full James E. Strates Shows carnival, set up on Hickman Drive in Sanford for about ten days each spring. The Orlando-based show hauls in around thirty rides, including the Giant Wheel, the Zipper, a Himalaya, a Tilt-a-Whirl and a Haunted Mansion dark ride. Smaller children get their own Kiddieland. Games of skill run down the row, with the fried and sugared fair food that goes with all of it. Rides take tickets sold in bundles, or you can buy an unlimited-ride wristband. Gates open at 4 p.m. on weekdays and early afternoon on weekends. Every ride has manufacturer limits on a rider's age and size, and closing time shifts with the weather and the crowd.
