Under the show barn at the Lake County Fair, 4-H and FFA members lead out steers, lambs, goats, swine, poultry and rabbits, then sell them at the market auction. This is the Orlando-area fair where the barns still outweigh the midway, and it runs for ten days each April at the fairgrounds on County Road 452 in Eustis. James E. Strates Shows brings the carnival, billed as America's only railroad carnival, hauling the Cliffhanger and the Dream Wheel in on its own rail cars along with Fireball the Claw. The Creative Living hall judges photography, baked goods, crafts and plants, and citrus gets a premium book of its own in a county built on groves. Gates open at 5pm on weekdays and 1pm on weekends and close at 10pm, though the rides keep running at least an hour past that. Admission is $12 for adults, $7 at 60 and over, $3 for ages 4 to 11, and free for 3 and under.
