The Lake County Fair fills ten April days at the fairgrounds on County Road 452 in Eustis, and it is the Orlando-area fair where the barns still outweigh the midway. James E. Strates Shows brings the carnival, billed as America's only railroad carnival, hauling the Cliffhanger, the Dream Wheel and Fireball the Claw in on its own rail cars. Under the show barn, 4-H and FFA members lead out steers, lambs, goats, swine, poultry and rabbits, then sell them at the market auction. The Creative Living hall judges photography, baked goods, crafts and plants, and citrus gets a premium book of its own in a county built on groves. Know before you go: gates open at 5pm on weekdays and 1pm on weekends and close at 10pm, though the rides keep running at least an hour past that. Admission is $12 for adults, $7 at 60 and over, $3 for ages 4 to 11, and free for 3 and under.
