About this happenin
Pitmasters set up along Lake Monroe at Gateway at Riverwalk, where competition barbecue, live music and cold beer take over the Sanford Riverwalk every May. The contest is a tasting event rather than a spectator sport: buy a wristband, work through the pits and cast a vote, with Pit Master, Pit Pro and People's Champion titles on the line. Bands and DJs play the lawn through the afternoon, a free kids zone runs alongside, and the day doubles as a fundraiser for Seminole County charities including Meals on Wheels Etc. Know before you go: general admission is free, and tasting wristbands and beverage tickets are sold separately. The day starts at 10am, BBQ tasting runs to 3pm, live music runs 11am to 5pm, and the festival stays open until 7pm.
