The races at Pig on the Pond are for pigs and for dachshunds. For more than two decades the festival has brought barbecue smoke and a carnival midway to Clermont's Waterfront Park. Fireworks go up over Lake Minneola. Pitmasters and food vendors line the lakefront while bands play the main stage. Students compete in a Junior Grillmasters cook-off. Kids' activities are free, and there's a quiet sensory reset tent. Project Scholars runs it and turns gate proceeds into $10,000 scholarships for south Lake County students. Parking at Waterfront Park is limited and the nearby residential streets are off limits, so the free shuttle lots, such as Lake Hiawatha Preserve and the Clermont Park and Ride, are the way in. Accessible parking is through the East Avenue entrance. The festival opens Friday evening and runs through Sunday afternoon, with Saturday the long day. General admission is a few dollars a head and cheaper bought in advance. Children's tickets are reduced, and all-you-can-ride wristbands are sold separately by the day. ATMs are on site, and leashed dogs are welcome.
